Review: “Sal was an amazing guide”

We recently had a private tour of Chichen Itza and Ek Balam Mayan ruins with Sal (Salvador Ocampo), a guide with Karma Trails. We had finished a stay on Holbox and needed transportation to these sites and our hotel in Valladolid. We wanted also wanted a private or small group tour for these sites that would fit our travel schedule. Boy, did Karma Trails deliver and how. Sal picked us up at the ferry, pleasantly chatted with us about the area then let us catch up on sleep. Once we got to Chichen Itza and Ek Balam, we discovered the depths of his knowledge about Mayan culture. He shared so many details (without being overwhelming) that brought the entire Mayan way of life alive for us. His low-key nature was perfect for us. And… we enjoyed chatting with him about the entire Yucatan Peninsula – we learned from Sal we should return for bike trails, exploring the old ‘plantation’ towns, and nature preserves. I’ve had several privately guided trips, but this was the best.
