Day 1 – Mexico City (or Cancun)
Once you arrive at the Mexico City International Airport you will be transferred to your hotel located downtown near the Zocalo Square. Since there are no activities scheduled in the afternoon you can enjoy a walk in the area.
Day 2 – Mexico City/ Tuxtla Gutiérrez/ Cañon del Sumidero / San Cristobal
Start the day by having breakfast at your hotel restaurant then be prepared to depart
from Mexico City to Chiapas on a domestic flight. Upon arrival at Tuxtla Gutierrez you’ll be transferred to the Sumidero Canyon, where you'll enjoy a speed boat tour in the river, admiring the walls of natural formation, some higher than 1200 meters. Afterword, you'll be visiting the small village of Chapa de Corzo, where you will learn more about the local culture and traditions. In the afternoon we will continue on the road to San Cristobal de las Casas. Accommodation at the hotel and free time to walk in the historic center.
Day 3 – San Cristobal de las Casas / Zinacatán / San Juan Chamula
After breakfast, you'll be picked up at your home and transferred to the Native Community of Zinacatan, where the people still live according to ancient culture and traditions. Here you'll visit the house of a local family, and learn how they live day by day and prepare the meals, as well as typical handcrafts of Chiapas. Following, you'll be visiting the controversial San Sebastian temple in San Juan Chamula, learning the visible contrast between the Catholic religion and local beliefs. Afterword, we'll return to San Cristobal to enjoy a guided City Tour of the historical center and typical local market. Free time to visit the city center.
Day 4– San Cristobal - Cascadas de Agua Azul - Palenque
Early morning you will depart to the spectacular Agua Azul falls, the most fascinating area in the mountains located between Palenque and Ocosingo. It consists of many cataracts following one after another in the Cascadas de Agua Azul Natural Park. The larger cataracts may be about 6 meters (20 ft.) high.
At the end of the visit, we will move toward Palenque, a little town at the bottom of the mountains, famous for the homonym archaeological site. Accommodation at the hotel and free afternoon time to visit the town.
Day 5 – Archaeological Site of Palenque
After breakfast, we’ll visit the archeological site of Palenque, where you’ll be confronted by the largest Mesoamerican step pyramid, the Temple of Inscriptions, spotted with hieroglyphics that have contributed significantly to the study of Mayan civilization. At the end of the visit, you will be transferred to Villahermosa Airport or the Bus station of Palenque.
